IBM, DELL, CISCO and so on goes the list. Ofcourse, you know them, but where are they now? Sometimes, they sell some new stuffs and also manage to make it to the headlines and then boom, they disappear again. Their products do sell in the market and that’s something obvious as they once delivered great technologies. They might be making lots of money as well. However, in the past few years they did not make any remarkable contributions to the technology. Sadly, they are no more the tech giants.
Speaking about EMC, if you had to store a hell lot of data, this company was your major option. It made lots of money selling you humongous machineries containing hard disks along with softwares to support data storage. So, what do you do when you need more data? You end up paying them more money as their software isn’t available elsewhere and this made the company very rich.
What happened next might have been a tragedy to these so called ex-tech giants . The cloud computing evolved and companies like Pure storage came into the picture. There is a whole new range of cloud computing services in the market that gives better data flexibility even without having to set up the hardwares. What can be more advantageous? Even small companies are selling the flash storage gears which are a faster alternative to the hard drives. They also cost less. No more buying hardwares.
Same is the case with Dell and it also affects IBM, CISCO et cetera in turn. What next? Well, the ex-giants have finally planned to unite against their anomaly. It has also been in the news that Dell and EMC has already merged. It is better if they hurry as they lag a lot behind and have too much catching up to do before the nail the current technology.
