Facebook- The emperor of the social media dynasty never gets tired of conquering the latest technological elements. Live streaming is the new bling to its reputation. Yes, now you could get live audio/video coverage of an event. Amazing, isn’t it? Facebook is trying to be this one-stop for all your social needs.
Meerkat and Periscope are the trending live video/audio streaming apps of the year. People simply seem to enjoy live streaming with their portable devices such as mobile phones. Although, the Periscope is primarily owned by Twitter, the live streaming is not incorporated in any other social media platform as such and that makes Facebook the first.
Facebook had already begun with the distribution of this feature. However, it’s only available to the high profile users like celebrities at the moment. The feature will be further made available to a certain percentage of people in the US, but it will be limited to the iPhone only. Damn! Facebook always makes one regret not having an iPhone. Never mind, not everybody stays in the US either.
Now, the good news is that the Facebook have told : “Over time, the company plans to bring it to all users”. Yeah, over time, maybe somewhere in the mere future.
This is how it works:
The stream basically displays a list of the live viewers. Names of Facebook friends who are watching will also be displays and it also supports real time comments as they are written. The video will be further saved to the users’ timeline just like a normal video which can be viewed or deleted later on.
