du launches the world’s first commercial U6GHz service for home and office routers

du says it has launched the world’s first commercial end-to-end U6GHz connectivity service on its live 5G+ network in the UAE.

What was launched

• The service uses 350 MHz of contiguous spectrum in the 6775–7125 MHz band, the upper part of the 6 GHz range.
• It works with commercially available customer equipment, such as the internet routers used in homes and offices.
• du names faster mobile broadband, next-generation fixed wireless access, cloud-based AI applications and connected environments as the main uses.
• The radio equipment comes from ZTE. On 2 November ZTE said it had installed its U6GHz equipment, with GigaMIMO technology and an Advanced Antenna Unit, on du’s live 5G-Advanced network.

“Today, we are bringing U6GHz into the hands of customers through a fully integrated commercial service,” said Saleem Alblooshi, Chief Technology Officer of du. du credited the TDRA spectrum strategy for making the launch possible.

Why offices should care

For businesses the interesting part is fixed wireless access: internet delivered to the office over the mobile network to a router, without a fibre line. It is a way to connect a new office before fibre is installed, or to add a backup line that does not share the same cable as the main one.

du has not announced prices, plans or a coverage map for U6GHz yet, so it is too early to plan a connection around it. As an official du Business channel partner, we will share the business plans as soon as they are published.
