The self driving car by Google called the Google Chauffeur was on the buzz since 2014. However, the car has now successfully completed its test drive and its prototypes were found roaming on the public roads of metropolitans like California earlier this summer. This car is good to travel without any driver.
Apart from the google’s custom vehicle this “self driving “ technology can also be accommodated in cars like an Audi TT, Lexus RX450h, the Toyota Prius and some other Lexus SUVs. Initially the custom vehicle did not have a steering wheel or brakes but they were included later on for the driver’s convenience.
The latest proposed model consists of seating for two passengers, sensors used for self driving, buttons for start, pull over and emergency stop. For safety reasons a flexible wind screen with foam like material has been included. Additionally, a speed limit of 25mph that is 40km per hour was set.
Around fourteen accidents were disclosed so far. Anyhow, it turned in their favor as the cars were hit from behind. The cars were reported to be driving safe when it was hit, which indicates that the cars are more efficient compared to human drivers. As the accidents were minor they were not given much of attention.
Google Chauffeur’s, heavy rain and snow tests are very much awaited as the cars merely work on the pre-programmed route. They cannot very well understand the traffic signals and small objects on the road like trash, debris etc, which can cause the car to veer a little.
Even though, quite a few self driving cars are in the news today, Google’s Chauffeur is challenging. It won’t be hitting the market anytime soon as all of its tests are not yet complete and a special drivers license for the self driving cars are still a topic being debated.
